MSC Belgium has been in Belgium for 25 years, and that called for a celebration. So, the question arose: create a gift for MSC Belgium.
Based on the MSC Irina, with a length of 400 meters, 1,000 times larger than the Lego model, and one of the largest container ships in the world. Note: the tugboats are also scaled to 1:1,000. These are the larger tugboats that guide container ships in ports, further demonstrating the sheer scale of a container ship like the MSC Irina.
A digital rendering—also to determine the correct quantities for ordering—of the base plate, with holes to partially sink the tugboats into.
Eight pieces per boat, but still the necessary technology to lower the boats at two levels. This way, both the foredeck and aft deck are low enough. Note: 1 mm is actually one meter, so a full stud thickness on the water would imply an 8-meter-high deck, which isn't the intention.
The model is constructed differently. The two halves of the boat are built upside down and held together by rods (bars). A long flex tube runs through the middle, onto which the container modules and two towers are clipped.
The water is SNOT-edged with transparent plates, creating a slightly translucent effect resembling the sea. The entire structure is housed in a black panel enclosure with logos and placed in a transparent acrylic display box for a dust-free, professional presentation.
