The competition

I grew up in the '80s, so I'd happily jump at a contest asking for the most fantastic TV series or movie made with LEGO.

After coming up with the idea for Labyrinth—the epic Jim Henson film starring David Bowie—my wife Manita suggested we definitely include Dirty Dancing as well. So, I entered two builds for this contest.

Labyrinth: The Four Guards

In deze scene loopt hoofdpersoon Sarah al enige tijd door een doolhof, waar ze wordt dwarsgezeten door allerlei wezens. Ze stuit op deze 'four guards'. De vier wachters houden haar een raadsel voor: één van hen vertelt de waarheid en één liegt altijd: je mag één een enkele vraag stellen om de juiste deur te kiezen om haar queeste te vervolgen.

Een kleine verwijzing naar een eerdere scene in de film, waarbij kleine mannetjes de tegels omdraaien waarop Sarah net met lippenstift een pijl had gezet om haar route vast te leggen.

Dirty Dancing: The Lift

The moment when John lifts Baby Frances. An epic moment in an epic film.

Unfortunately, Lego rejected the IP rights to Dirty Dancing, so no Dirty Dancing builds will be accepted. Still, this was very easy to build. A fairly quick build using figures based on the techniques Arne and I used in the third episode of Legomasters, where we had to act out a song. We won our second episode there with Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock.

Fun facts: a heart in Baby's hair, a heart as the shape of the floor.
